October 27, 2004 I don't have to keep saying this, but VOTE KERRY, if you wanna vote Bush, stay the fuck home. October 26, 2004 Noreen's got a brand new cell phone...and she doesn't have your number. Yes, my cell went kaput, so I used the opportunity to switch providers as well. If you want to get in touch, drop me an email, cos your phone number probably dissappeared with my old cell. John Stewart let out a can of whoop ass on Crossfire. If you missed it see it here. Dave Matthews band tries to put the shit episode behind them. Have we hit the top of the real estate bubble here in NY? October 17, 2004 I had a lot of plans for this weekend. I was supposed to go see Social Distortion with Jen on Friday at Roseland, then follow that up with a trip to a bad eighties dance party downtown at midnight. On Saturday Lisa and Chris and Linda were all going to watching party for The Apprentice, which Darren was on last week. Yes, Darren was the winning designer on the show! Wasn't that amazing? I was so excited. So yeah, I was inviting myself along in hopes of scoring a mini capelet. I also wanted to stop by the mammoth tag sale happening in Central Park this weekend. But instead I was hit by a crying jag that I just could not pull myself out of. The reality that my father is dying is breaking my heart on a daily basis. I realize there is no way around this. If things go according to natures plan, sons and daughters outlive their parents. But it is just so emotionally devastating to watch, that I just sit around and wonder how other people have done it. Anyway, in the midst of all this heartbreak we may have scored an apartment. We had stopped looking for a place to buy as I was not at a point where I had either the time or the drive to look. But while I was in Germany, Jim stumbled upon a place that is (relatively) cheap, has very low maintenance costs and is 2 blocks from our current apartment. I don't want to jinx myself by getting too excited because you can never count on anything in the market here, but it does look promising. We signed some papers to take it off the market, and hopefully they will be sending our lawyers a contract in the next few weeks. What made me even happier about the situation is that this place is in a new building being built just one and a half blocks from where my Dad grew up. And in my Dad's world-view, that street, in this part of Brooklyn is one of the best places you could raise a family. His childhood memories are idyllic, and he spent a half an hour on the phone with me reminiscing about growing up there and telling me stories about the bike shop the neighborhood boys hung in front of. My mom then got on the phone and told me it was the most excited she had seen him since his diagnosis and that just made me want to cry from happiness instead of sorrow. October 11, 2004 My trip to Frankfurt went well. Security at the book fair was over-the-top, I got hit on by a wide variety of business men from Korea and India, I slept very little and basically subsisted on cheese sandwiches. I did get a chance to go out to a traditional German tavern where I had Apfelwein (or apple wine for you ignorant Americans) for my first time. I liked it much better than I like English cider, as it is not as sweet. I followed that off with shots of schnapps which tasted somewhat like paint thinner, but I was being peer-pressured into drinking them. I missed the presidential debates over here - I did catch some highlights on CNN. Talk of the presidential election was all over the book fair. I was approached by many, of all nationalities, to express concern that they were afraid of Bush being re-elected to office in the US. And while I tried to assure everyone that I too was terrified of that outcome, I felt badly that a decision that has such worldwide reverberation is solely in our hands, and the rest of the world has to just sit back and hope that we choose wisely. Speaking of the debate, Gabe sent me this link of Bush's notes from the event. Also funny on factcheck.org: "Cheney got our domain name wrong -- calling us "FactCheck.com" -- and wrongly implied that we had rebutted allegations Edwards was making about what Cheney had done as chief executive officer of Halliburton. In fact, we did post an article pointing out that Cheney hasn't profited personally while in office from Halliburton's Iraq contracts, as falsely implied by a Kerry TV ad. But Edwards was talking about Cheney's responsibility for earlier Halliburton troubles. And in fact, Edwards was mostly right." Oh, I saw two cute love movies recently, 50 First Dates and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Yeah, yeah, I know they have been out forever, but both films share a common message: Love can conquer all - Even minor brain damage. Now isn't that sweet? October 3, 2004 Hey, do you remember this link? I think it was cirulating like two years ago. And here I found it again, and it was just as funny in the '04. So Kerry won the debates? Right?. So sayeth the media, so sayeth the flock. I can't watch that stuff. I already know who I am voting for: John Stewart. Nope, its for Kerry if you haven't guessed. Regardless of how you feel about the man, it is your patriotic duty to do likewise. Like these people: The Kerry Haters for Kerry. You can play this at the next debate to make it semi-interesting. Or watch the faces of Bush. Oh! Social D has a new album. Feel free to burn me a copy. If anyone has any kind of advice concerning diet/nutrition/suplements/herbs for treating cancer, please send your suggestions my way. I'm off to Germany for the bookfair. Have fun without me kids! |
