Liz came! We went out. I have absolutely zero motivation at the moment....it is easier for me to just post photos than to write/speak/think. For pictures of Saturday night click here.

And now I unveil my dream/fantasy bathtub...this thing makes me so fucking happy, I have no words for it. Its like my one big luxury. There are jacuzzi jets in that freakin' tub, did you know that? That's where all the bubbles come from. Its like MAGIC. Yeah, so that's it, I just wanted to brag and shit.

Didya know that there is a Subway sub shop on Bedford Ave? I didn't notice it until last week. Yes, I know, I am not very cognizant of my surroundings...I also didn't realize how omnipresent those damn Subways were until I saw this one when I was in Heidelberg, Germany:

They're everywhere. I find it frightening. And I'm not even completely opposed to all chain stores either. Just last week I was fantasizing about how sweet it would be if a Sephora moved into the neighborhood. A Sephora and a movie theatre and I would be happy as a pig in shit.

Something good that did move into the neighborhood is the restuarant Lamb & Jaffy. Its waaaaaaaaay down there in Greenpoint, further down Manhattan Ave then I had originally thought, but totally worth the walk. The corriander encrusted fillet of salmon was delish and its BYOB (or bring your own wine or whatever) so it ends up being pretty damn cheap for a very large and filling meal.

I couldn't figure out where to bring my mom for dinner when she was here the other weekend. I kept running different places through my head and then dismissing them one by one as too loud, too hipster, too long a wait, or too expensive (I knew she would insist on paying and there were five of us)...So I happened to see this review of Sweetwater in New York magazine and figured WTF?

Sweetwater used to be the diviest punk bar in the Berg and thus my husband was a bit resistant to going there...you know, the memories are too painful...and my brother offered to "piss on the floor" once we did get there, but eventually they both came around to the idea and we headed over. And y'know, I have to say the food was not bad. But we had to wait an hour and fifteen minutes before they served us anything, and I can't really recommend any place that makes me wait that long for anything. This one particular waitstaff dude continually bumped my chair all night too. That is also unacceptable.

I'm going through a little food obsession phase, so if you have any suggestions as to good places, send them my way.

Ro is in town this weekend. We went out last night. See for yourself.

I ended up at some indoor artist flea market on North 6th street last weekend and got a super cute necklace and a bunch of good used books. Somebody somewhere had told me Kitchen Confidential was a fun read and I found it there for just a few measly dollars. And now I know all sorts of stuff about restaurants, like to only order fish Tuesdays through Friday, and NEVER on a Monday...Or what's really in the hollandaise sauce. I won't tell you what. Read it and learn.

It was also fun to find out that Anthony Bourdain was (or is?) a chef at Les Halles where I eat for lunch at work a lot. My boss brings me out for lots of fancy-pants french food and it just warms my heart that this lunatic junkie-alcoholic was/is cooking it.

My cousin gave me a copy of Hell on Wheels: A Tour Stories Compilation when he was over last weekend. Which, while entertaining took exactly an hour to read, and thus I would have been pissed had I thrown down $14.95 on it.

Anyhoo, the only reason I got on this computer tonight was to bring to your attention to the fact that a cruise ship was attacked by pirates this week. You heard me. Matey.

Other very random stuff:

What Fox news would have looked like in the olden days.

Someone took the time to knit a digestive system.

Have an accident, get some attention.

What does your birthdate mean?

Yo ho ho, I've got to hoist anchor mateys!

We had the family over for a dinner party this weekend. And we fit 9 people in the living room so we are psyched. My mom was in from Boston and she cleaned our whole apartment. From top to bottom, no joke. And it wasn't even messy to begin with, she would go to take an apple out of the fridge and the next thing I knew, she would have removed all the refridgerator shelves and have them soaking in the sink, while she tried to figure out why one of the door tracks didn't run smoothly. Jim would get all freaked out by this behavior and I would be all "ssssssshhhhh, she's CLEANING our fridge!" Click here for random family fun if you are interested.

I work in marketing. As a result I am exposed to some of the lamest attempts to grab the youth market in existence. Like I got this crazy zine-like thing from Tylenol, promoting local tatoo artists, while also promoting Tylenol for use after getting a tatoo. Bizarre. I use percocet myself.

Anyhoo, the funniest thing to cross my desk recently was this publication from the US post office - Deliver magazine. This is not your grandma's fucking post office!

I was totally confused when I first received this thing. I also thought that was Frank Black on the cover and that only added to my befuddlement. But I figured out quickly enough that this is actually a solicitation by the post office to get more companies to start direct mail campaigns. Ok, so its kinda laughable. What was actually interesting was their generational breakdown.

So I'm still plenty confused as to why my generation ( Gen X, natch) was ripped off with only 11 years constituting a "generation." Isn't there something wrong with the math here?

"The U.S. Postal Service white paper, Generation X, Generation Y and the Mail, defines Generation X as those born between 1965 and 1976, ages 29 to 40, and Generation Y as those born between 1977 and 1994, ages 11 to 28."

I'm still glad they clarified things for me.

So Halloween was fun. I finally saw Jim M.'s first movie Cannaballistic, to which we played a drinking game called "spot the hook" or something like that...we had to drink a lot is what I'm saying... But more importantly we saw the trailer for his new film Death to the Automatons . It looks awesome.

Speaking of awesome, I loved Zadie Smith's first book White Teeth - which y'know a lot of people did. It even made this Time magazine 100 best books list which somehow shocked me. You know what else shocked me? That I have actually read a bunch of the books on this list. I went to a kinda lefty progressive high school and then to a full on pinko-commie college and both schools basically threw what is considered "the cannon" of literature out the window. So I have little experience with the classics, or whatever most kids are forced to read in school. But this list is very inclusive. A good reference when you are looking for a book to read.

But I never even finished Zadie Smith's second book The Autograph Man (although many others did indeed enjoy it). So I had no idea how I was going to feel about her new book On Beauty. There was so much in it that was good and interesting and made me think that I hate to report that I didn't totally fall in love with it.

Drugs are Nice, on the other hand, was FUN FUN FUN to read. But I think you may have to be a fan of Rollerderby and zines and post-punk music and art and drugs and whatnot to enjoy it. But maybe not.

I like Sarah Silverman. Here's a profile of her in the New Yorker.

The Sarah Silverman jukebox.

Play rate the surgery.

The Death Psychic.

Cecily named her daughter Beatrix - such a good choice.

October stuff here.
